The "Kupferplatte" or
Copper
Plate Caves in Jochberg are the only show caves in the Kitzbühel area, a uniquely historical attraction. Pleasantly cool when it’s hot, pleasantly warm when cold, pleasantly dry when it’s raining. A mining experience for everybody.
People were mining copper in this region as long as 3000 years ago. Up until 1874 ore was also smelted in Jochberg. On 31st July 1926, the last layer was exposed and operations stopped.
In 1990, the original "Kupferplatte” show caves were opened in the old tunnels with the old mine train driving into the mine down a tunnel measuring 145 meters long. A guide will explain and demonstrate various mining techniques, tools and tunnels.
