With the "nostalgic train - Gisela-Bahn - Kitzbühel Alps", we have brought the romance of the “good old days” back for you.
The special train with the number 18601 takes all romantics back to the good old days in our mountains. The trip on the Gisela Bahn from Hopfgarten to Zell am See lasts about 3 hours. The train was opened by the Imperial and Royal railway company in 1875 and is named after Emperor Franz Joseph’s eldest daughter. The post carriage, still running today, dates back to 1910 and in the restaurant car there is a bar, buffet and the original post box. Attention all stamp collectors: here you find the much sought-after special postmark.
The trip on the "Gisela Bahn" takes you along the Brixen Valley, through our summer and winter holiday country and on to Zell am See. The nostalgic route section was built by the Imperial and Royal railway company and christened "Gisela". The celebratory maiden journey took place on 31st July 1875 in the presence of Austrian Imperial family member, Duke Karl Ludwig.
This event meant the European rail connection from Paris - Zurich - Innsbruck - Salzburg - Vienna and Budapest to Istanbul had been completed without interruption.
The heart of the original train, dating back to the thirties, is the Imperial and Royal post carriage originating from the year 1910.
In the middle section of the train, the restaurant car, you find, among other things, an original post box with special postmark, a buffet and a bar with music.
Along the journey through the valleys of the Kitzbühel Alps, passing our alpine villages and little towns dating back to the middle ages, rivers, lakes and towering mountain scenery, our hostesses will provide information and guide you throughout.
After a 3-hour visit to Zell am See, you make your return trip on a comfortable tour bus.
WE WISH YOU A GREAT TRIP!
